This is for all the grown ups at home to read. As you know reading is far more than just reading words, it's about understanding, comprehension, inference and above all else READING FOR PLEASURE! As you all try to navigate your way around home teaching, we have created some guidance to help you, some 'tricks of the trade' if you like. Hopefully it helps.

We're continuing our work on 2D shape today. There are two challenges so good luck!

You had a go at making your own timeline about your life now lets try and start to make one to help show the important parts of Admiral Horatio Nelson's life.

Some interesting reading about Nelson! There are some questions for you to think about too, or chat with your parents about them. Could this help you with your timeline?

Wednesday 25 March 2020.

Hello everybody, we hope you are all keeping well and trying your best to enjoy the beautiful weather we are having at the moment! We thought today it would be good if we had a mindfulness activity day to give everybody time to either catch up or even to try different things or try things differently. So after phonics, there are some suggestions below or you could try something else that makes you feel good. Hmm, I wonder if you can find something to do which doesn't use electricity.

Have a go at shadow drawing. Use anything you can find like a favourite toy. You might even spot some 2D shapes in your artwork!

Wow! Great effort Mrs Hill. Joe Wicks is an awesome way to exercise, it is so important to remain active even if you are at home. It is good to mix things up a bit too, you could play a game in your garden? If you don't have a garden you could dance along to your favourite song on Just Dance or Kidz Bop? How about making up your own Joe Wicks style workout for all your family to do, you could write down each move as an instruction? https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChIjW4BWKLqpojTrS_tX0mg https://kidzbop.co.uk/

Lets start the day with some music. We love singing at Orchard Infant School and with the help of the magnificent Ms Wilson we are going to continue to sing! Music is a great way to relieve any worries and to make you feel uplifted and happy. Ms Wilson has created a PowerPoint with words and music that you can play at home, just click on the slide show, sit back and sing your hearts out. Don't worry if you don't have PowerPoint, just follow this YouTube link instead... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdlPVBvkr-s

9.45am - Phonics. Today we are learning about the -est suffix. Scroll through the slides to find out what to do. Don't forget to click pause if you don't want the slide to automatically move on. Record everything in your green books, remember to put today's date!

11.00am - Maths: This week we will be learning about shape. Start the slide show from the beginning and work your way through each one. The first page is a mental maths challenge, this doesn't have to be written in your books but you might want to use your number line or hundred square to help you. If you find something really tricky after you have tried your best then just put it to one side and move onto something else.

A quick shout out to all the amazing parents at home trying navigate their way through the learning we are posting. Please don't feel you have to do all the challenges in one go, some days there might not be as much as others. We just want to make sure there is a bank of school work that you can access if you need to.

2pm - Our final lesson for today is history: Family timeline.
